Melanie kellett MS, OTR/L

Life is full of hard things and I’ve built a career around helping children overcome obstacles, build self-esteem, and become more independent. I work closely with your family to find an approach that works for you and your child.

After graduating with a B.S. from University of Maryland and an M.S. from University of Illinois at Chicago, I worked in a variety of different treatment settings developing my skill set by serving children with moderate to severe intellectual and physical disabilities. I have owned a practice for the past 6 years and am also a certified early intervention therapist treating kids ages birth to three.

I live in Alexandria, VA with my husband, two sons, and daughter. When I’m not working, I enjoy running, cooking, reorganizing, and trying out different local playgrounds with my dinosaur-roaring sons and daughter.

My Approach

My approach is a thoughtful combination of play and structure to meet the needs of each individual child. I take time to build rapport and trust with your child during our initial sessions before challenging them to address more complex behaviors and feelings.

I am trained and have experience in the following specialty areas:

  • The Alert Program - How Does Your Engine Run?

  • Powerfully You Self-Regulation Curriculum

  • Zones of Regulation

  • Handwriting Without Tears

  • Infant Massage

  • 1-2-3 Magic
